IOC President Kirsty Coventry to visit Salt Lake City next week

International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry will be in Salt Lake City next week on an unofficial visit that includes tours of Olympic venues that will be used for the 2034 Winter Games and a stop at a Salt Lake elementary school.

An Olympic champion in swimming from Zimbabwe after graduating from Auburn University, Coventry was elected the IOC’s first woman president and succeeded Thomas Bach in 2025. The Deseret News reported that Coventry is expected to have meetings with Gov. Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and leaders of the Utah Legislature.

When he heard that Coventry would be coming to the Salt Lake region for about 24 hours, “my mind was going a million miles an hour because we want to show her everything,” Utah 2034 President and Executive Chair Fraser Bullock said. She will be taken to Utah Olympic Park in Park City, along with Rice-Eccles Stadium (proposed site for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies) and the Delta Center.
