'The Promise' to be central to National Council of Youth Sports' future event
They may not be needing or wanting to wear powdered wigs. But Wayne Moss, Executive Director of the National Council on Youth Sports, has grand ideas for a Constitutional Convention next year on youth sports at a destination to be named in short order.
The NCYS is working on what it calls “The Promise on Youth Sports,” a concept that involves three main pillars with an injury surveillance system, recommended guidelines and framework on what organizations should provide and an annual report to be commissioned on holding the system of youth sports accountable.
“It’s the largest unregulated space where there are no universal set of standards or oversight and or accountability,” Moss told me. “The timing is also right around this given there’s an influx of private equity in the space and a lot of people have their opinions about that. From my vantage point, it’s here to stay. I think what’s important is that we seek to provide some guidance and guardrails.”
The location of said event is to be determined shortly. Moss said a RFP that was issued went out to close to 90 destinations around the United States and there were about 10 solid responses, which has since been whittled down to three finalists with an event to be held in 2027 and then be held annually.
