DuPage County, which is the home of the first 18-hole golf course in the United States, will be the center of the golf universe this week when it hosts the Presidents Cup between the U.S. and International teams at Medinah Country Club.
DuPage County projects an estimated economic impact of $175 million for the event. The U.S. team features players including Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay against an International team highlighted by Hideki Matsuyama, Tom Kim and Adam Scott, alongside rookies Nico Echavarria, Ryo Hisatsune and Nick Taylor.
The Presidents Cup has been held biennially since 1994. Initially it was held in even-numbered years opposite the years the Ryder Cup was held before the Presidents Cup moved to odd-numbered years after the 9/11 attacks. It has since reverted back to even-numbered years because of the COVID pandemic.
“After years of supporting and collaborating with Medinah, PGA Tour and partners throughout DuPage, we’re excited to finally see Presidents Cup come to life,” said Igor Bakovic, DuPage Sports Commission Director of Sports. “But we’re equally focused on what comes after it. Golf has been part of DuPage County’s story for generations, and this is another significant chapter in that history.”
