Welcome to the latest in a series of conversations with smart people who I think provide great perspective on issues in sports.
Tom Clark is a sports scientist and performance coach with over a decade of experience at the highest levels of elite sport. Currently completing a doctorate in jet lag and circadian disruption and having coached across the world in Formula 1, he brings firsthand insight into the toll travel takes on human performance.
Tom founded Phaze to turn insight into action with a focus on jet lag science and solutions. His mission: To equip athletes, professionals and performance teams with smarter tools, actionable data and personalized schedules so they can perform at their best wherever they go. I was connected to Tom through the fabulous PR representative Abigail Tufts a while back and it was great to continue the conversation with him recently.
The F1 Tripleheader Challenge
Tom worked with Esteban Ocon for several years as his trainer and for those who are fans of Formula 1, the Singapore Grand Prix is renowned for how hard it is on the drivers at night with unrelenting humidity. This year the changes and modifications to the F1 calendar bring an amazing tripleheader of races that started this past weekend in Baku then moving to a previously unscheduled race in Malaysia before Singapore, so I asked Tom how hard it would be for anybody to understand what the drivers and teams are going through.
